1. Eligibility & Boarding
1a. Authorized Riders
Service is available to university students, staff, and faculty. Guests/visitors must be accompanied by the rider who booked the trip for the full duration of the ride. Guests/visitors may not book or ride independently using a university member’s account.
1b. Booking Riders
Riders must book through the app and be at the pickup location at least 5 minutes prior to the scheduled pickup time. Vans will wait a maximum of 5 minutes upon arrival. Dispatch calls during inclement weather are a courtesy only; riders should not rely on a call to be ready. If the rider is not present within the wait period, the ride may be marked as a no-show and the van will depart, continuing to its next pickup.
2. Safety & Transit Rules
2a. Seatbelts
Seatbelts must be worn by all passengers for the duration of the trip. If a passenger removes their seatbelt mid-trip, the driver will pull over and wait for the passenger to become buckled.
2b. No Moving
For safety, all passengers must remain seated while the vehicle is in motion.
2c. Route Integrity
Drivers follow a predetermined route and stop only at designated locations. Personal errands or rider-requested deviations are not permitted. Drivers may adjust routes due to traffic, construction, or safety conditions. Drivers are not required to follow route changes suggested by riders.
3. Prohibited Items
To maintain a safe environment, the following are strictly prohibited:
3a. Substances
Alcohol, illegal drugs (including paraphernalia), smoking, and vaping are not permitted inside a UO vehicle.
3b. Hazardous Materials
Weapons, explosives, or flammable materials are banned.
3c. Oversized Items (OR Large Non-Luggage/Non-Grocery Bag Items)
Items that obstruct aisles, take up passenger seating, or pose a safety risk are not permitted on board. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: furniture, kitchen appliances (mini or full-size), and other large household items.
Bicycles are not allowed inside the vehicle.
ADA mobility devices required for accessibility are permitted.
3d. Scooters
E-scooters are not permitted on UO vehicles.
4. Driver Authority, Refusal of Service, & Conduct
If any of the following violations are excessive and/or severe, they may result in warnings, restricted scheduling, temporary suspension, or permanent suspension of riding privileges.
4a. Final Say
The driver/dispatch has full authority over the vehicle environment. They may refuse service for the current trip to an individual who is being verbally abusive, physically aggressive, or visibly intoxicated to a point that poses a safety risk.
4b. Conduct
All Shuttle riders are expected to be respectful to all riders and Shuttle staff. It is never appropriate to express frustrations by acting in a demeaning, threatening, or verbally abusive manner. Some examples include yelling or cursing at others; insulting someone, including in the presence of others; taunting, jeering, mocking, or humiliating another person through acts or words; spreading personal, hurtful, or false information about a peer; or engaging in intimidating behaviors.
4c. Cleanliness
Riders are responsible for not leaving trash in the vehicle. Riders can use the little trash can at the front of the van or take trash with them. If a rider spills food or drink, please notify Shuttle staff.
4d. Shuttle Signage
Do not touch, modify, or tamper with any Shuttle signage and electronic devices in and outside of the vehicle.
4e. No-Show
A no-show occurs when a rider isn’t present at the pick-up location at the expected pick-up time. Vans will not wait beyond the 5-minute grace period once they arrive. No-shows unnecessarily disrupt service for others.
5. Reporting & Lost and Found
5a. Feedback
To report a safety concern or provide feedback on service, please contact duckrides@uoregon.edu.
5b. Lost Items
Shuttle is not responsible for items left on the shuttle. Please check your seat before exiting. If you notice a missing item, please call Shuttle at 541-525-8677 and we can coordinate how to return the item if found.
