E-Device Operation and Path Etiquette
E-bikes, e-scooters, e-skateboards are allowed to operate on campus on designated bicycle routes only. Please be alert and avoid distractions while moving. Share paths with other users and ride slowly or walk your wheels near pedestrians, in bad weather, and in crowded areas. Use front and rear lights when visibility is low and wear a helmet to reduce the risk of serious injury.
E-devices are not allowed to be stored or charged inside UO buildings. This includes rooms in university housing. E-devices can be parked on campus at outdoor bike and scooter racks. Charging for e-devices is available in the Millrace Garage bike cage for anyone at UO. Residents at Global Scholars Hall and New Residence Hall have access to charging stations in the bike cages. The university plans to designate additional locations in the future.
Please practice safe e-device charging and storage habits:
- Currently, e-devices are not allowed to be stored or charged inside UO buildings.
- Only purchase and use devices, batteries, and charging equipment that are listed by a nationally recognized testing lab and labeled accordingly.
- Don’t continue to charge the battery once it’s full.
- Never use charging equipment that didn’t come with your device.
- Stop using your device if the battery does not keep a charge or shows signs of damage, such as leaking, smoking, unusual odor or change in color or shape.
- If your device needs repairs, have them performed by a qualified professional.
- Store e-bikes, e-scooters, and batteries away from exit doors and anything that can get hot or catch fire.
- Do not put lithium-ion batteries in the trash. Recycling is always the best option. Take the batteries to a battery recycling location or contact your local waste department for disposal instructions.
