Walk & Roll

Walking and rolling is the most popular way to get around campus. No matter how you get to campus, walking is a great way to enjoy breaks throughout the day. Consider walking to class, lunch, activities, and meetings; better yet, schedule a walking meeting with your classmates or colleagues!

Commute by Walking

Over 40% of UO students commute to campus primarily by walking. Did you know that over 25% of UO employees live within a 25-minute walk of campus? Consider walking at least some of the days you travel to campus. This is a guaranteed way to build beneficial movement into your day while avoiding the stress and costs of driving.

Tips for Walking

  • Be aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions like cell phones while moving.
  • Be visible especially in low light and inclement weather. Incorporate lights, bright colors, and reflective elements into your outfit.
  • Move predictably and check to make sure motorists and cyclists see you before crossing a street or path. You may need to check behind you for traffic turning right across your path.
