Registration & Locking

Free Registration

Registration of personal bicycles and scooters with the University of Oregon is strongly recommended. Along with a good lock and proper locking technique, it is also the easiest way to keep your bicycle and scooter safe. The University of Oregon has partnered with Project529 to provide free, easy, and fast registration. Registration has two parts:

  1. Signup on the 529 Garage website or use the 529 app.
  2. Affix the 529 "Shield" decal to your bicycle (see image below).

Locking Best Practices

  • Use a U-lock around the bike frame and secure the frame to a bike rack. Also lock your wheels and any components that have a quick-release mechanism.
  • Scooters can lock to any bike rack and several scooter-specific racks on campus.
  • Take accessories and valuables with you.
  • Do not leave your bike or scooter locked to a public rack overnight.
  • Decorate your bike or scooter to make it unique and easier to identify.
  • Bikes and scooters abandoned on campus over the summer will be removed and donated.

Lock Cutting

Can't get your lock to work or lost your key? Transportation Services can cut the lock for you. You will need to show your UO ID and register your bike or scooter. Contact Transportation Services to set up an appointment.
